Student in Need of Emergency Shelter
Donation protected
I'm raising funds for one of my students who has been quietly navigating homelessness for the past few years, often staying with friends of friends just to get by. Recently, their situation took a turn, and they no longer have a place to stay. I'm hoping to raise enough to cover a two-week hotel stay to give them some stability and breathing room while they work to get back on their feet. Any support, big or small, would mean the world and help give this student a chance to focus on their future instead of where they'll sleep next.
I have called every agency listed in the Mercer County Resource Guide as well as all those locally suggested. We are on several waitlists for transitional housing as well as the official waitlist for the Housing Authority. I am already working with several realtors to find something locally that they might be able to afford as my student and the mother both have secured jobs. No transportation, but they can take the Mercer County transit and walking is not an issue.
My student has been accepted into college and is hoping to go in the fall. I have secured my student the basic college necessities as well as a small college fund to help with any expenses that are not covered by financial aid. The Intermediate Unit has been helpful in organizing supplies for college, too.
My student has access to my classroom food pantry and many have donated clothing and hygiene items already- thank you! If you are unable to donate money to this GoFundMe campaign, but would still like to help we can always use the following items:
- Grab and go snacks that do not need refrigerated nor cooked (fruit bars, pop tarts, goldfish, pretzels, Monster energy drinks, glacier cherry Gatorades are all favorites)
- Face and body wipes
- Toothpaste
- Mouthwash
- Deodorant
- Laundry Detergent
- Adult Bicycle and Helmet
- Size 8 Tennis Shoes

There’s a growing need for resources for people experiencing homelessness in our area, and the more I learn, the more I realize that my student’s situation is not an exception...it’s a reflection of a much larger issue affecting many in our community. While their story is just one of many, as an educator, it simply wouldn’t sit right with me to not do everything within my reach to help. I'm committed to using whatever tools and connections I have to offer support, stability, and a bit of hope in this difficult moment. I appreciate anyone who is able to help me do the same! Thanks!
