Struggling mom of 2 in Giza, Egypt

Hi there!

My name is Rasha Mediene and I met this lovely family while in Egypt. This mother is doing all she can to provide for herself, her son and her granddaughter who are both 10 years old. She works 12-14 hours a day at her potato stand that she has to push to and from the Pyrimads daily and she is barely making ends meet, so the kids tend to go to the streets to beg. I asked why they don’t try working on the weekends and the response was a fair one. The son told me that he has tried and worked so hard just to receive pennies, that doesn’t even get him a bag of chips. He says he makes a lot more just asking people for help.

Of course I did all I could providing them with meals and even got them a phone so I could keep in contact with them. In turn, they opened their home to me, cooked for me and told me to stop paying for hotels and to stay with them. I visited the home and quickly realized how unsanitary the space is. The scent is not pleasant and there are cockroaches roaming around. It doesn’t seem to me that they don’t clean, it just doesn’t seem like there is the time or funds to do this properly.

The fact that they can barely feed themselves and want to take me in so I don’t pay for hotels shows how big this families heart is.

I am reaching out to the people in hopes of changing this families life. I hope to raise enough funds to buy them a new apartment so they will no longer have to pay rent, and fully stock it with furniture and all the necessities one would need, from food, to toiletries.

I will not be taking a penny of the funds and I plan to document how all of it is used so you can see for yourself where your money has gone.
