The Storyteller’s Shelf Podcast was born from a shared vision: to create a welcoming, empowering space where creatives in children's publishing could connect, learn, and grow and where publishing professionals could find motivation. Through candid conversations with authors, illustrators, agents, editors, and industry insiders, we’ve cultivated a community built on transparency, encouragement, and creativity.
Now, we’re ready to take the next step—and we need your help.
️Our Next Chapter: From Podcast to a Foundation
We’re forming The Storyteller’s Shelf Foundation, an organization and business dedicated to uplifting underrepresented creatives and amplifying diverse voices in the competitive world of children’s publishing. Our mission is to demystify the publishing process and provide meaningful programming that fosters education, connection, and inspiration.
As a grassroots team of publishing professionals who are both (neuro)diverse and passionate about this sphere, we’ve personally experienced the challenges of navigating an industry that isn’t always built with inclusion or transparency in mind. Through this foundation, we’re creating what we wish we had when we started out.
What We’re Building Next
With a formal business status, we’ll expand our offerings to include:
- A Mentorship Program to support emerging creatives with guidance from experienced professionals
- Annual Book Awards that celebrate excellence, inclusion, and heart in kidlit
- A Virtual Summit filled with workshops, panels, and lectures on the craft and business of children’s publishing
- A Volunteer Program open to students, recent grads, and career-changers seeking hands-on publishing experience
- Civic Engagement Projects like charitable book drives, literary enrichment programs for students, campaigns and contests bridging local creatives and students
- Vendor Events and In-Person Conferences to empower community creatives/professionals and contribute to a state's economic vitality
