Story book for minority language in Georgia

Hi everyone!

Tsova-Tush is a language spoken by approximately 500 people in one single village in the country of Georgia, in the Caucasus region. The language and its people have a rich cultural history, but unfortunately, almost all speakers are over 50 years of age. I have been working as a linguist with the Tsova-Tush for 8 years now, and have enjoyed their hospitality immensely. When I talk to many Tsova-Tush, they express the need for educational material for children, like storybooks and classroom materials. This is essential for the keeping the language alive, but academic institutions don't provide budget for these kinds of things. That's why I want to facilitate the books with this campaign, and with it give back to the community that have hosted me for so many years.

I plan to fund the publication of two small storybooks for children age 5-10, written and illustrated by Tsova-Tush. Additionally, I want to fund the production of classroom posters that facilitate the learning of words, like the names of animals, natural phenomena, or family members.

Het Tsova-Tush is een taal die door ongeveer 500 mensen wordt gesproken in één dorp in het land Georgië, in de Kaukasus. De taal en de mensen hebben een rijke culturele geschiedenis, maar helaas zijn bijna alle sprekers ouder dan 50 jaar. Ik werk nu al acht jaar als taalkundige bij de Tsova-Tush en heb enorm genoten van hun gastvrijheid. Als ik met veel Tsova-Tush praat, geven zij aan dat er behoefte is aan onderwijsmateriaal voor kinderen, zoals verhalenboeken en lesmateriaal. Dit is essentieel voor het in leven houden van de taal, maar academische instellingen geven geen budget voor dit soort zaken. Daarom wil ik met deze campagne deze boeken bekostigen en daarmee iets teruggeven aan de gemeenschap die mij al zoveel jaren een tweede thuis biedt.

Ik ben van plan de publicatie van twee kleine verhalenboekjes voor kinderen van 5 tot 10 jaar te financieren, geschreven en geïllustreerd door Tsova-Tush. Daarnaast wil ik de productie financieren van posters in klaslokalen die het leren van woorden vergemakkelijken, zoals de namen van dieren, natuurverschijnselen of familieleden.
