UPDATE: 31 DEC 2025.. Thank everyone for helping me raise $800 for my Stories from Joshua project. I so appreciate all your generous donations that allowed do two large orders of childrens books, which I dropped off last year (2025) at KIng Edward Hospital (KEMH) in Perth. Social work at KEMH have said they are running low on books, so I decided to update my fundraising target to $2000 so I can replenish their book supply in 2026. ****************** ******* A bit about me and my reason for this fundraiser: Hi, I'm Kelly and I am doing this fundraiser in loving memory of my late son Joshua James Podolan. During my pregnancy with Joshua, I had an extremely rare complication which ultimately caused me to have persistent, heavy blood loss. On 14th January 2025, I was admitted to King Edward Memorial Hospital at just 23 weeks as I was considered high risk for premature delivery. I also had placental insufficiency. I was hoping to have a long haul stay at KEMH and to stay pregnant for at least 5-10 weeks to give Joshua a fighting chance. However, on 19th Jan things took a turn; I had a huge bled so was wheeled down to theatre and the Doctors monitored Joshua and I very closely. Unfortunately his heart rate was dropping, so in order to save his life, they decided deliver him via emergency C section. From there, he was taken straight to the Neonatal Intensive care unit (NICU). Joshua fought so hard just to survive, but as he was born at just 23 weeks and 5 days, he got too sick, and was too small to stay. He passed away on 22nd January. We are grateful that we got to meet him and give him cuddles but we are devestated that he didnt make it home. One of the memories I have with Joshua is reading him the book Magic Beach, which I am so grateful for. I think everyone should have the opportunity to read to their NICU baby (if they choose to), so as a way of honouring Joshua, I would like to raise $2000 to buy books to donate for the NICU babies at KEMH. The books I donate must be hard cover and brand new (for hygeine purposes) and each book costs between $8 & $20. I thank you all for your support and generosity with this project. Kelly (Joshua's mum)
