As you may or may not be aware – on the morning of February 9th Erik & Andrew Storheim were on a snowmobile that hit a bump and tossed them into the path of an adjacent snowcat on the trail. Somehow they survived being hit, and literally, run over by the snowcat.
It is a miracle that they did survive and the individuals in the snowcat were trained medical professionals and rendered immediate stabilization care.
Andrew spent several days in the hospital, having suffered a fractured pelvis, a fractured scapula (shoulder blade), 4 broken ribs, staples to the back of his head, and other internal injuries (lungs, etc.). The snow cat ran over Andrew’s chest and abdomen. Gratefully was discharged late in the day February 13th. Andrew is healing and in good spirits but his recovery will be lengthy.
Erik was also run over by the snow cat from his mid-leg all the way over his head. Erik suffered a fractured (but not displaced) C1 vertebrae, 9 broken ribs, a fractured ulna (arm), over 26 stitches on his face, lung damage, and nerve damage to his right arm. Erik spent a week in the hospital and was discharged on February 16th. He is recovering and improving each day – is up and about walking, but still struggling to get rest.
The extent of the damage to his arm is not yet determined, but he has very limited movement in his right hand. Erik is a dentist by profession and requires the use of that hand.
We are putting this GoFundMe together to help the Storheim family feel of our love and support for the next couple weeks or months until Erik can work again.
