WAYNE COUNTY - IT'S TIME WE TALKED
STOP THE WHISPERS!
These illnesses have voices:
“Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Stroke, and COPD”.
And these have whispers;
“Anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, depressive disorders, eating disorders, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and schizophrenia”.
Each year, nearly 20% of American adults experience the effects of mental illness.
More than 20% of the American youth will have firsthand experience with mental illness before the age of 18.
More than half of all American adults with substance abuse disorders also have a co-occurring mental illness.
Mental health issues in Wayne County remain higher than the state average and has been identified as a top issue for Wayne County!
ClientFirst Behavioral Health, Curtis Media Group, Mental Health Association in Wayne County, Piedmont Natural Gas, Wayne Community College, Wayne Memorial Hospital and other local sponsors are dedicated to stopping the whispers and giving Mental Health a voice. They have created an on-going awareness campaign launched in May, 2016. The Wayne County Stop the Whispers! Project will focus on educating the community about mental health and substance abuse, as well as providing the resources necessary to help those in need of services.
