Stop EACOP from Devastating Our Home & Nature!

Support students risking their freedom to stop the East African crude oil pipeline
--Our communities need us! We need to stand up and protect nature and livelihoods!--

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) is a pipeline that will transport oil produced from the Kabalega industrial areas in Hoima, Uganda to the port of Tanga in Tanzania. According to the pipeline construction manager, the construction of the pipeline is expected to begin early in 2024.

Upon completion, the pipeline will disturb approximately 2,000 square kilometers of protected wildlife habitats, including the gorgeous Murchison Falls National Park, the Taala Forest Reserve, the Bugoma Forest, and the Biharamulo Game Reserve. These are multiple natural areas critical to the preservation of vulnerable species such as the Eastern Chimpanzee and African Elephant. Furthermore, nearly a third of the pipeline will run through the basin of Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria, upon which more than 40 million people depend for water and food production.

Why support us?
We are students from different universities in Uganda who have continuously protested against the project through nonviolent direct actions, even though we have faced a number of challenges, including the arrest and injury of our members and financial constraints.

Currently, we are running both online and in-person campaigns with the aim of raising one million of students and activists from 32 universities, 50+ secondary schools in Uganda and Tanzania (and around the world!). We want these supporters to join us to hold peaceful direct actions at offices of presidents of Total Energy and of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, or CNOOC, the companies primarily responsible for the drilling project in Uganda and Tanzania, urging them to stop the project.

We need to raise €25 000 to help us do the following effectively:
• massively mobilize and recruit students and activists from different universities
• perform general assemblies and inform communities about the risks of the pipelines
• mass leafleting
• explaining what sustainable alternatives to the pipeline could be
• and rapid response to support activists.

This is a critical battle for nature and for our communities. Please donate whatever you can - even the price of a cup of coffee - and share it with your friends. Your support is invaluable to this effort.

Thank you so much for your assistance and dedication.
The students of the Stop EACOP movement.

**Please note, Stephanie Brancaforte, a longtime climate activist, is organizing this fundraiser for us, simply because GoFundMe is not operational in Uganda.
100% of the funds collected will go to the Stop EACOP movement! Thanks.
