We, the residents of Jackson Heights, are taking action to stop the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) From taking over our neighborhood. We have sent emails, letters, tweets and other communications to express our opinions on the Open Street and Plaza imposed on 34th Avenue without our input.

For months, we have heard the DOT discuss their plans at multiple meetings of the Community Board. We have asked questions and commented in the chat. The members of the Board have asked questions, asked for studies, and made suggestions for surveys and public meetings. The DOT and their partners in this Open Street disregarded all this.

Now, we are left to take the action that will finally allow the voices of Jackson Heights to be heard. We are working on this issue with our lawyers. This was not the desired way to go, but we are now forced to do so. The actions of the DOT have not followed the regulations of NYC and are certainly not in the spirit of those regulations. The development of Passeo Park is not acceptable or legal.

All funds collected will be given directly to the lawyer to pursue the above goals. No funds will be used for anything else.

Hemos enviado correos electrónicos, cartas, tweets y otras comunicaciones para expresar nuestras opiniones sobre la Calle y Plaza Abierta impuestas en la Avenida 34 sin nuestra opinión.

Durante meses, hemos escuchado al DOT discutir sus planes en múltiples reuniones de la Junta Comunitaria. Hemos hecho preguntas y comentado en el chat. Los miembros de la Junta han hecho preguntas, solicitado estudios y hecho sugerencias para encuestas y reuniones públicas. El DOT y sus socios en este Open Street ignoraron todo esto.

Ahora, nos queda tomar la acción que finalmente permitirá que se escuchen las voces de Jackson Heights. Estamos trabajando en este tema con nuestros abogados. Este no era el camino deseado, pero ahora nos vemos obligados a hacerlo. Las acciones del DOT no han seguido las regulaciones de la ciudad de Nueva York y ciertamente no están en el espíritu de esas regulaciones. El desarrollo de Passeo Park no es aceptable ni legal.
