Donate now to help fund a legal challenge against the Davidson County $65M Sportsplex Project!
Citizens Against the Sportsplex, a grass-roots community group opposed to the $65Million Davidson County Sportsplex, needs your support to fund a legal challenge to this ill-conceived project. This extravagant project costs roughly $380 per Davidson County resident, and diverts county funds that could better be used for schools, a jail and other much needed infrastructure. County Commissioners continue to ignore concerns over the scale of the Sportsplex, the lack of adequate infrastructure to support it, its devastating environmental and community impacts, and the fiscal irresponsibility of the project, leaving no option other than turning to the legal system to challenge this ridiculously oversized project. At the request and urging of numerous concerned citizens wanting legal action, we've engaged an attorney experienced in land-use, zoning, and real estate development law to pursue our case. Donations go directly to pay his legal fees and expenses.

What is the proposed Sportsplex?
The proposed Davidson County Sportsplex is a massive 125+ acre development with plans for 16 athletic fields with bleachers, lighted scoreboards, and outdoor lights, 3500 parking places, and a 5 acre outdoor water park to be located in the rural community of Southmont, 20 minutes from the closest interstate interchange. While designers tout it as an "East Coast destination" for regional travel ball teams, promising jobs and tourism, it's a "build it and they will come" gamble and the true cost falls squarely on us the taxpayers of Davidson County. If you want County Commissioners to focus on the high priority NEEDS of our schools, jail, law enforcement and emergency responders rather than this East Coast Destination WANT, please donate!

About Citizens Against the Sportsplex:
Citizens Against the Sportsplex is a grassroots community group established in response to the numerous individuals at each of the Sportsplex community meetings and the numerous posts in our Facebook group and other Facebook pages wanting legal action.
⦁ We have an EIN (tax ID) from the IRS for this group
⦁ We opened a separate bank account for the GoFundMe at a local bank
⦁ We have a volunteer serving as treasurer and administrator of the GoFundMe account, Dr. Bricca Sweet, a retired Lt. Colonel, US Army Intelligence, and Davidson County homeowner since 2013
⦁ Our community group set-up, EIN, banking account info, and Treasurer’s info was vetted and approved by GoFundMe before this account went active
⦁ GoFundMe provides donation details for each donation to the administrator only (even if the donor chooses to remain anonymous on the public facing page)

Any money that remains after the legal matter concludes will be donated to Communities In Schools (Lexington/Davidson County). Communities in Schools is a non-profit organization that is focused on ways to keep kids in school so that they can achieve success in life. They do this by purchasing supplies and donating them directly to the schools and students where they can make the biggest impact. They will donate items such as notebooks and writing supplies, warm coats and clothes, and sports equipment. They provide mentors and tutors or whatever is needed to keep kids engaged and focused in the classroom and community. You can find more information here: http://lexington.communitiesinschools.org
