Help stop the $65 million Davidson County Sportsplex. Help fund our lawsuit to stop the fiscal irresponsibility!
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Fellow Residents of Davidson County, Imagine waking up to the roar of construction equipment and the destruction of over a hundred acres of serene woodland wildlife habitat. This isn't a distant nightmare, it's the looming reality of the proposed $65 million Davidson County Sportsplex in Southmont, NC. We need your urgent support to fund a critical lawsuit to halt this ill-conceived project before it's too late.
The Davidson County Sportsplex is a massive 125+ acre development with plans for 16 athletic fields, 3500 parking places, and a 5 acre outdoor water park. While promoters tout it as an "East Coast destination" promising jobs and tourism, it's a "build it and they will come" gamble and the true cost falls squarely on us the taxpayers of Davidson County.
Financial Burden on Taxpayers
This $65 million project (roughly $380 per Davidson County resident) diverts funds from schools, roads, and other much needed infrastructure. Who benefits? Out-of-town developers and event organizers, not our families.
Environmental Devastation
This project would carve up forested areas, threatening local wildlife habitats, increasing flood risks in our already vulnerable watershed, and contributing to air and water pollution from heavy traffic and construction runoff. Our rural charm is what makes Southmont special. Do we really want to trade it for concrete and crowds?
Community Disruption
Noise, light pollution, and surging traffic would shatter the peace of nearby homes and farms. Our kids deserve to play in open fields, not battle for space in overbuilt complexes that prioritize profit over people.
Local opposition is growing
Residents all over Davidson County are uniting against this overreach. But words alone won't stop bulldozers. We need a strong legal challenge to enforce zoning laws, environmental protections, and fiscal accountability.
It's a bad location
The location in Southmont is a twenty minute drive on narrow, winding two lane roads from the nearest interstate. There are no nearby restaurants other than two diners and a gas station that has limited seating. There are only few hotels/motels within twenty minute drive. It's not convenient to the majority of the population in Davidson County, and it's not convenient to most of the schools. The property the county purchased for this massive sports complex is surrounded by an existing residential neighborhood. The noise and light pollution will impact the homes, some of which are only a few hundred feet from the proposed fields.
Our Fight: A Lawsuit for Accountability
We've retained an attorney experienced in land-use law to pursue our legal challenges.
This isn't just a lawsuit—it's a stand for our right to a say in our future. With your help, we can force transparency and give the taxpayers of Davidson county a say in how funds that were intended for infrastructure development, our schools, and first responders are spent.
