A planning submission for a 300 Mega-Watt Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has been submitted for land next to the North Downs AONB to the rear of Brabourne’s St Mary’s church, on farmland owned by Parsonage Farm.

The site’s outline is roughly the size of 14 football pitches. Within this ‘red line’ boundary (see Gallery) will be a substation. Various structures, like transformers and suppressors, will tower up to 10m high. 124 batteries will be paired in 62 shipping container-sized housings containing flammable Lithium batteries and cooling fans.

There will be car parks, buildings, construction equipment and other structures such as a 240,000 litre water tank as Lithium batteries are known to catch fire.

The impact on our lives and landscape will be enormous.
