Hi, my name is Don Staniford and I've campaigned for over 25 years exposing the welfare nightmare and environmental pariah that is salmon farming. Since 2018 I have filmed inside floating fish farms to expose the horrific suffering and welfare abuse of millions of Atlantic salmon crammed in cages, mostly in Scotland but also in Ireland and the Faroe Islands. You may have watched me on Netflix's 'Seaspiracy', Paramount's 'The Changemakers', French TV, Italian TV or Netflix's 'You Are What You Eat'.
The Times newspaper told my story via Kayak vigilante goes undercover to expose 'horror' and The Herald described my battle against Mowi, Bakkafrost and Norskott Havbruk (Scottish Sea Farms) as 'David vs Three Goliaths'.
I'm currently fighting off legal attacks in Oban Sheriff Court, Dunoon Sheriff Court and the Scottish Courts and am desperately seeking a lawyer and advocate to argue my cases. The Coalition Against SLAPPs in Europe has verified the Mowi lawsuit as a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation.
Faroese-owned Bakkafrost and Norwegian-owned Norskott Havbruk (Scottish Sea Farms) have now filed similar SLAPPs and are attempting to fence off the public waters around salmon farms in the sea, freshwater and on land as well as seeking a ban on the use of drones.
In May 2025 I spoke out as a 'SLAPP target' in a Scottish Parliament round table discussion on SLAPPs.
In June 2025, The Guardian newspaper revealed that Bakkafrost Scotland - when called The Scottish Salmon Company - hired a private investigator to track my movements. French TV published a profile piece online here.
