Preserve Hendra: Join Our Fight Against the 24/7 McDonald's Development
We urgently need your support to preserve the safety and tranquility of our Hendra community. Your contributions will fund crucial steps in our appeal against the development of a 24/7 McDonald's drive-thru at 330 Nudgee Road.
How will this development impact Our Community:
- Increased Traffic and Safety Risks: Up to 180 vehicle movements 24/7 could heighten dangers at an already accident-prone intersection.
- Noise and Environmental Concerns: Expect increased noise, odours, rubbish, and light pollution near your home.
- Round-the-Clock Deliveries: Anticipate continuous scooter deliveries disrupting the peace of our neighbourhood.
- Security Threats: A rise in nighttime activity may intensify our area's already high theft rates.
- Property Value Decline: Potential devaluation of homes due to the development’s impact.
Steps taken to date (as of July 31):
Thanks to your generosity, we’ve made significant strides in our fight against this development, including:
- Engaging an experienced legal team to represent and support us throughout this appeal. This has involved several meetings, site visits and guidance.
- Securing a Barrister to provide initial advice.
- Lodging a formal appeal with the Planning & Environment Court and holding an initial session for the appeal to be heard.
- Participating in a mediation hearing with Brisbane City Council and McDonald's to seek a resolution.
Despite these efforts, our case looks like it will now advance to court. Given all raised funds to date have been utilised, we seek your vital support for the next phase.
Next Steps:
- Engage appropriate independent expert witnesses for our case (which may include planning, traffic, light, odour and economic need) to counter McDonald’s position.
- Return to the Planning & Environment court by August 7 to advise what was agreed at mediation and the elements of the appeal we will be progressing with.
- Secure adequate funding to cover the critical legal representation and expert expenses.
