Stop Rails to Trails: Save our Homes

Concerned Citizens of Vermilion Parish, Louisiana was established months ago in an effort to stop a misguided Rails to Trails program. Proponents of the program are attempting to use State and Federal Funds to acquire by Purchase or Eminent Domain the existing and active Railroad line. By acquiring the Railroad the long term effects will harm homeowners. It will destroy the elevated buffer that the Railroad created in 1892 that stops the flooding of Homes and Businesses. Crime is also a major issue in our Communities. The Rails to Trails program will enhance the ability of criminals to further plague homeowners along the proposed Trail.

We are in need of funding to retain the services of an Attorney to assist in our battle to protect the wellbeing of our Families and Children. The original landowners gave the Right of Way to the Railroad beginning in 1892 to establish the Railroad. Through Eminent Domain the existing landowners may lose their lands and be faced with Flooding and an increase in Crime.
