Our community and its pristine farmlands along Salem-Quinton Rd., Rt. 49, are under threat by a developer who has no community ties to our residents and way of life. The developer has partnered with Salem Quinton LLC, attempting to erect a 160,000 square foot, 43.5’ tall warehouse with no known tenant. This sort of building would be the first of its kind in Quinton Township and the largest structure known. The activity expected here is a 24/7 operation of an estimated 750 tractor trailer trucks per day. The vehicles will be travelling through Pennsville, Salem, Alloway, and likely from Bridgeton areas via major roadways. The warehouse and any future development of this sort will have a negative impact on the health and wellbeing of residents. It will cause extensive damage to local roads, and have a significant impact of traffic patterns that are not equipped to handle such extensive traffic which will likely lead to future grave outcomes.
The proposed site will border the Elk Terrace and would sit within 60’ of several resident backyards. Our township and nearby townships are surrounded by creeks and tributaries. The once farm land will be a paved plot of land and will surely impact an already failing water runoff issue our residents are currently facing. This project is completely at odds with the stated goals set forth in the township Master Plan of protecting open spaces, rural character of our community, preserving farmland for future generations, and helping to maintain or increase property values.
The residents and interested parties have sought legal representation to research and issue legal opposition to the township and developers. Please consider donating to this legal defense fund for us to continue this fight to protect our rural community for current and future generations.
