STOP OVERDEVELOPMENT IN HISTORIC VENTURA!

Donation protected
Fellow Venturans,

*UPDATE regarding 211 Thompson* – the approved luxury 6 story project that we believe violates local laws, impacts evacuation safety, and negatively impacts the historic district. A reminder that legal proceedings can take time, but know we’re actively involved in this and other development issues throughout the City.

Livable Ventura filed a Writ of Mandate in September 2023. The Writ claims that the city, in approving the project, violated the California Density Bonus Law, the California Coastal Act, California Environmental Quality Act, the Downtown Specific Plan, and the California Constitutional right of due process. The Writ requests the court stop any action to construct the project until all legal requirements are met. A statutory settlement conference has been scheduled for October 31. This is mandated by the court to get the parties together to try to resolve the case without court intervention. It can sometimes be productive to see if the other side is willing to negotiate.

Livable Ventura is working with our attorney to prepare for this meeting. A big thank you to all who have generously contributed to the legal fund. Please continue to contribute if possible. We plan to take this all the way!

Update
Thanks to generous donations from concerned Ventura residents, Livable Ventura has initiated legal action against City of Ventura for its denial of the appeal of the 211 Thompson project. During the appeal, we tried to find a compromise that would allow building on this corner, but not a project that would violate local laws, impact evacuation safety, and mar the historic district that it impacts.

We need to raise additional funds in order to see this legal action to its fruition. Please spread the word and encourage people to donate. If we don’t take a stand now, the City will approve more projects like this that will destroy the character and quality of our beloved historic downtown.

THIS IS IT! Livable Ventura tried to modify the massive 211 Thompson 6-story luxury apartment building going up at the corner of Figueroa and Thompson but the City Council approved it.

We are raising money to move forward with litigation. It will be almost impossible to prevent more tall, expensive, non-family friendly developments that don't serve our current residents' needs from being built Downtown or anywhere else in the city if we don't scale back this project.

Our public views of the ocean and the hills will be lost forever with these monolithic buildings exceeding what is allowed in the Downtown Specific Plan. Traffic is already overwhelming and unsafe in this evacuation zone. This is an historic district! It is our city and we need to take it back and preserve it for future generations.

This historic district begins at the San Buenaventura Mission, travels down Figueroa past China Alley, a number of well-preserved Victorian homes, and Tortilla Flats. It extends to the Ventura County fairgrounds and ends with views of Channel Islands National Park. Modern 6-story buildings do not belong here.

Join Livable Ventura in funding the fight to take back our city and stop greedy developers from profiting at the expense of our community.

Your monetary is now tax deductible and will go directly to a fund for legal representation and the costs associated with fighting this and other similar projects. You can view our website at livableventura.com. Checks or Zelle will also be accepted and won't incur the GoFundMe transaction fee.

All donations, large and small are greatly appreciated!
