STOP Government purchase and using Citywest Hotel as a IPAS
Donation protected
The government’s decision to purchase Citywest Hotel and convert it into a permanent refugee center will have an irreversible affect on our village. Such an action will not only strain local infrastructure and resources but also place significant stress on both the existing and newly arrived populations. Both groups are likely to suffer from inadequate integration efforts, which are essential for fostering mutual understanding and harmony.
We are fighting to reclaim our local amenities and save our leisure center, gym, and restaurant, which are part of the Citywest Hotel complex and are likely to close with the purchase. We want our convention center back so it can again host events such as Disney on Ice, self-built shows, golf tournaments, Irish dancing competitions, the Norwegian poker tournament, and the Irish Open International, to name just a few.
Furthermore, transforming such a significant local landmark into a permanent center is affecting local businesses reliant on tourism and disrupting the quiet ambiance many of us value. It is causing challenges in community integration and our security. It is placing a burden on our public services, such as education, healthcare, and transportation, and we have seen no help from the Government for our Village and now they intend to intensify it; this is absolutely criminal. Not once were the residents of Saggart consulted before the Government forced this devastating decision upon our village. This is a blatant betrayal of the democratic rules they are meant to govern by; such as transparency, accountability, and respect for the people.
What has taken place here is nothing short of authoritarian. Decisions made in secret, imposed without warning or consent, this is not democracy. This is the kind of action we expect from a dictatorship, not from a Government elected to serve its people.
Our voices were silenced. Our community was ignored. And we will not accept it.
Help us with this mammoth task, taking on the Government "Dave and Goliath" style.
Any contribution towards our fight against the use of the hotel as a IPAS centre would be extremely appreciated.
Our Country's Tourism is being strangled, it is time to make a stand!
My name is Tanja Alt, and I created this account to help cover costs related to peaceful protests, and legal fees in our fight to stop the Government making Citywest a permanent IPAS Centre. Our goal is to see it returned to its original purpose as a vital part of our hospitality sector, not as an IPAS Centre.
So far the purchase of; 2 x large bridge banners, 300 x stickers, 50 x lamppost signs, 40 x protest signs, 50 x t-shirts etc. have been made.
We have already begun paying for legal fees, but we will need significantly more support to continue this fight.
Every donation no matter how small or large makes a real difference and is deeply appreciated.
This journey began just a few short weeks ago, and it has already been incredibly intense. What started as a solo effort has quickly grown into a large and inspiring group of passionate, motivated, and highly skilled individuals. I’m genuinely amazed by what we’ve achieved together in such a short time and we're only getting started.
The road ahead is long and challenging, but we are neither daunted nor afraid. In fact, we're more determined than ever to move forward and become even more proactive in the work we’re doing.
Never in my life did I imagine finding myself standing up and challenging the government but here we all are, and we are not backing down!
Thank you for standing with us!
