Hi,
We are the S12 Green Belt Action Group a community of local residents united in opposing the proposed removal and development of Green Belt land next to Charnock Primary Academy and just off White Lane (opposite the Bay of Bengal). Sheffield City Council plans to remove this land from the Green Belt to build 304 houses, on top of 270 homes at Norton Aerodrome and several other nearby sites bringing the total to around 1,000 new homes in the S12 area.
The Green Belt exists to prevent urban sprawl and to protect valuable wildlife habitats. This particular site includes Robin Brook, a historic stream that feeds into The Moss and the Moss Valley (SSSI) an area of significant scientific and ecological importance.
As residents, we’re deeply concerned about the loss of our precious green space and the impact on local wildlife and our very special recreation space. We’re also worried about the effects on our community especially Charnock Primary Academy, which could face years of disruption. Children could experience disturbance throughout their entire early school life, from nursery right through to Year 6. Added to this are concerns about increased traffic on White Lane and pressure on local services such as GP practices.
Our group has been working tirelessly to raise awareness and represent the community. So far, we’ve gathered over 3,000 signatures (including more than 700 in person), delivered 2,500 leaflets, organised community meetings, carried out extensive research, prepared a detailed community objection, and spoken on behalf of residents at formal hearings.
We are committed to ensuring that our families, friends, and future generations can continue to enjoy this beautiful green space. Any funds raised will help us continue spreading the word (as many as 30% of local residents were unaware of the plans until we contacted them) and, to if necessary, seek legal advice to strengthen our case.
Please give what you can to help us protect and preserve this special place for generations to come.
