My name is David De Souza, a former British Army soldier and proud resident of Stoneclough. For years, I’ve worked alongside our community to ensure that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes are never forgotten, from the Poppy Waterfall on Ringley Bridge to our Candlelight of Remembrance events that bring people together in reflection and unity.
Through this shared dedication, one thing has become clear: our villages of Stoneclough, Ringley and Prestolee deserve a permanent place of remembrance, a cenotaph of our own.
Many local men and women gave their lives in service to this country, yet their names are missing from other memorials. This project aims to right that wrong, ensuring every one of our local fallen is honoured here, where they lived, where their families still walk, and where their stories belong.
The cenotaph will stand on the historic grounds of St Saviour’s Church, surrounded by the very community that inspired it. It will serve not only as a monument of remembrance, but as a focal point for future generations, a place for schools, families, and veterans to gather, learn, and remember.
This GoFundMe has been created to help support all future remembrance projects within our area, from events and poppy installations to the construction and upkeep of the new memorial itself. Every donation, large or small, will directly contribute to preserving our local heritage and honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We are not a large organisation, we are a small community with a big heart, determined to do what is right. Your support will help us build something truly meaningful:
a place of pride, of peace, and of remembrance that will stand for generations to come.
Together, we can ensure that the words “Lest We Forget” are not merely spoken, but built into the very heart of Stoneclough, Ringley and Prestolee.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
