Stewart Shining's Eagle Project

Imagine, for a moment, that the largest earthquake since 1994 has struck the Los Angeles area, and your home was destroyed. Everyone is fine, but you have nowhere to go for your basic needs to survive in the key moments right after the disaster.

My name is Stewart Shining. I am raising money for my Eagle Scout project at the Salvation Army in Van Nuys, CA. My project is to outfit and prepare a base of operations as a storage facility of disaster relief goods to be ready for distribution within the first 12-48 hours after a disaster. These supplies will be given to the surrounding Van Nuys community.  We are focusing on Van Nuys because it is one of the underserved parts of Los Angeles, and the Salvation Army's scope will we increased as a result of this project.

With your money I will be purchasing a solar cell unit for emergency power, a convection air circulation vent, and 4 shelving units. All of which will be earthquake and weather proof, ready to keep any food and supplies fresh until a restock is in order.

This is the 2nd unit of this type in the Valley built by Boy Scouts.

I am planning on outfitting the container unit on May 12th.

Any excess funds will be used as a donation to the Salvation Army in Van Nuys, California.
