Guinness World Record Attempt for Mental Health

Mental illness in Redcar and Cleveland is on the rise. Shockingly, 1 in 4 of us are affected by mental illness personally or know of someone who needs support. Mental health charity Mind reported a 70% increase in people using their services because of depression and anxiety concerns.

Did you know that it costs an estimated 1 million pounds to treat someone born with cerebral palsy over a lifetime? This does not include normal living costs!

With growing waiting times to seek medical advice and rising living costs, the problem isn't always dealt with swiftly enough despite the tireless work of charities and organisations.

Enter Steven Green. A local guy who gives back to his local area. Mental strength and the power of the human mind are passions of his (obsessions, really), and he believes in taking action.

In 2019, his close friends, Gordon and Laura Wade, gave birth to triplets. One of the beautiful three, Amelia, was born with cerebral palsy.

To raise money to help support Amelia and to provide a free-of-charge mental health therapist in his home town of Redcar, Steven is going big!

He has decided to attempt a Guinness-approved world record to complete the longest distance single event triathlon. The triathlon will be a 7-mile swim, followed by a 181-mile cycle and a 46-mile run - 234 miles in total!

Steven raised money for mental health support two years ago by completing 2 Iron Man events back to back, which he holds the world record for, so he is no stranger to events of this magnitude.

Friday 12th August at 6am is the start time of his attempt, with an expected finish time of 1pm on Saturday 13th August in Redcar. As an employee of Steven's, I know he has the desire and the mental strength to complete this event.
