Steven G. Whitlock Memorial Golf Tournament

The Steven G. Whitlock Memorial Golf Tournament raises money every year for Camp Esperanza which is a camp for children who suffer cancer or other bone marrow failure syndromes.  As many of you know our daughter Laurel Good had a bone marrow transplant when she was five.  While she was in the hospital Child Life and the other medical providers told her about Camp Esperanza and asked her if she would like to go to this camp.  Laurel returned home in March after going into the hospital in December the year before.  When July came around she had a port, was throwing up most days, tired easily and was on anti-rejection drugs and other medications, but she was intent on going to Camp Esperanza.  As a parent I was so nervous about allowing Laurel to go to this camp.  My wife told me that we should let her go because her doctors and nurses would be there to give her the medications  and other volunteers would look after her.  So we sent our 6 year old daughter to Camp Esperanza for the first time.  Laurel has  continue to go every year since.  It is a special place.  No one has to ask why a child is missing hair.  No one has to ask why someone gets tired easily or why they throw up.  It is a place where there is understanding.  It is a place where kids with substantial medical issues can just be kids for one week every year.  During the week they have fun and games.  They also have a memorial service for the kids who did not make it in the last year and a graduation service for those who are aging out of Camp Esperanza.

I am on the Board of Directors for The Professional Bondsmen of Texas.  I have know the Whitlock family for 20 years and in the last 10 or so years our organization has teamed up with the Whitlock family to raise money for this great cause.

The golf tournament is Wednesday, October 9, 2019.  Please consider donating to this cause to help send kids suffering from various cancers or other bone marrow failure syndromes to Camp Esperanza.
