On Saturday 2nd May, during the Hitchin Rugby Club U13 tour to Norfolk, our friend and fellow parent, Steve Hastings, passed away unexpectedly.
Steve was a devoted partner to Jenny and a loving father to Mya, Ben and Max. As Jenny shared, “We are all absolutely devastated and trying to come to terms with this unimaginable loss. He was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can say.”
Steve was a much-loved part of the Welwyn Old Town community, where he owned and ran The Lemon Plaice. He will be fondly remembered as the calm, kind and welcoming face behind what many considered the best fish and chips in the area. He had a natural way with people and took real pride in what he did.
Around the rugby club, Steve was a familiar and valued presence. He loved being on tour and supporting the boys, always there on the sidelines, sharing in the experience and building strong friendships with a close group of fellow parents.
This fundraiser has been created by Hitchin Rugby Club to help ease some of the practical pressures for Jenny and the children in the months ahead, and to give friends, family and the wider community a way to show their support and appreciation for a truly lovely man.
If you are able to contribute, no matter the amount, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kindness and for keeping Jenny and the family in your thoughts.
