Steve and Katie Adopt a Baby

By now you probably know that we're having a baby. The thing is, we don't know when...or where...or who the parents are. We're adopting!
We are active with our adoption agency, which means that we could be matched with an expectant mother and baby any time between tomorrow and next year.
Adoption is wildly expensive: domestic infant adoptions can easily cost $50,000. While we have been saving up for over a year, we aren't quite where we need to be to cover agency-related expenses, legal and travel fees, and maternity leave for Katie (who is self-employed) once the baby is home.
We know the middle of a pandemic is just about the worst time to be asking for money. Thank you for even thinking of us, and if you're not in a place to donate right now, please don't worry about it. If you're able, every little bit helps and would be really appreciated.
It also feels a bit icky to be fundraising for an adoption when financial hardship plays a part in some birth parents' decision to place a baby for adoption in the first place. We'll be donating 5% of what we earn through this fundraiser to GoodPlus Foundation , a nonprofit that helps parents end multi-generational poverty through emergency grants, donations of items like cribs, diapers, and baby food, as well as services for parents including GED classes and trauma-informed counseling.
