Steps for Stanthorpe

Donation protected

On the 27th of December 2019 I am going to walk from my home in Moggill, 5 days, to arrive on New Years Eve morning at the town of Stanthorpe...

Why would I walk almost 200km through the December heat to a place I haven’t even visited before?
Well for one, I’ve never been and it looks like a nice place to visit!

And I know what you’re thinking “Well, he must be one of the guys that are just really into walking holidays!”
Nope..
“Then he’s definitely a fitness buff!”
But no, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m just a normal guy, and if anything, I’m still trying to find my 30! (and here’s hoping this walk might make up for some of those ‘can’t make it to the gym today’ excuses!)

”Well, then he must be crazy!”
Maybe I am crazy, or maybe I’m 26 years young, dumb and full of... surprisingly spontaneous motivation!

All jokes aside, I’m tired of sitting at home and wanting to help but never knowing quite what to do.
So I figured I’ll roll the dice, and if you’ll support me, I’ll take you on a journey with photos, videos, live streams and more from my home in the quiet suburb of Moggill, Brisbane to the drought stricken, fire ravaged region of Stanthorpe and the Southern Downs, a place famous for their farmers and fine produce.
You’ll be able to keep up to date with all that I’m up to through the Steps For Stanthorpe Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Steps-for-Stanthorpe-108022304015847/

Now, I’m no David Attenborough with his long and distinguished career of photographing and filming all over the world; but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over the last few years since cameras in phones have gotten pretty good. Skills that make me an average photographer at best. And I plan to use those skills, with your help, to make a world of difference and get some pretty great snaps along the way.

So why am I walking further than I’ve ever walked before? In the Aussie Christmas heat when I can’t wait to get home and put the aircon on when the mercury tips 30?
Why on earth am I willing to struggle through this journey?

Because it’s a struggle when you can’t just turn on the tap for a glass of water.
Because it’s a struggle to not be able to feed your animals because the paddocks are bone dry.
Because it’s a struggle to only be growing crops at a fraction of your normal output, and watering some not for yield but just to keep them alive for when the drought finally breaks.
Because it’s a struggle fighting the raging bush fires.

So I hope you’ll support me, supporting our farmers and every day Australians who are doing it tough this Christmas period.

Here’s what I plan to do with the money raised:
- Co-ordinate with the Southern Downs Regional Council to donate money to struggling farmers to help cover costs (water for crops, feed for livestock, covering bills, providing a little Christmas relief)
- Donating funds to already existing charities to provide tankers and bottles of water for residents
- Funds to be given directly to local organisations for bushfire recovery efforts

Even if you can’t donate, please share this far and wide!
