Honoring Stephanie & Helping Nijah Rebuild After Fire

Dear Friends, Family, and Community:

On June 11, 2025, our beloved Stephanie Jones suffered a devastating tragedy when a fierce fire engulfed her home at the 7900 block of Dorsey Run Road in Jessup, Maryland. Despite heroic efforts by local firefighters who quickly brought the blaze under control, Stephanie sustained critical burn injuries. Tragically, Stephanie’s injuries were too severe, and after a courageous fight, her life support was compassionately withdrawn on June 15, 2025, around noon. Stephanie passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving son, Marquis Owens, and siblings Nathan Jones, Melissa (Jones) Williams, and Laura Jones.

Stephanie was deeply loved and known for her immense kindness, strength, and compassion. Her greatest joy was her family—especially caring for her 10-year-old grandson, Nijah Jr. (Little Nijah). The fire destroyed not only Stephanie’s possessions but also everything Nijah owned. Nijah was staying with Stephanie to attend school in her district, underscoring her dedication to his well-being and education.

As our family grieves this unimaginable loss, we must now address significant and practical needs:

Funeral and Memorial Costs: Arrangements for Stephanie’s transportation from Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center to the cremation facility, cremation expenses, and organizing a meaningful public memorial. A permanent memorial will be established, honoring Stephanie’s wish for a dedicated place where loved ones can visit and feel close to her, as she deeply valued this following the loss of her friend Jamar.

Immediate Needs for Nijah Jr.: Clothing, shoes, personal hygiene items, school supplies, books, toys, and essential furniture such as a bed, dresser, and desk. He has lost everything familiar and comforting to him in this tragic fire, and our immediate goal is to restore a sense of normalcy and security for him during this deeply distressing time.

Ongoing Support and Housing: Assistance for Nijah’s ongoing living arrangements and stability, including potential relocation and adjusting to his new circumstances.
