Rebuild La Sierra
Donation protected
Our dear friends Maximilian Erdely
(AKA Dr. Maky)
and René Ashtara-Erdely
have suffered unimaginable severe losses due to the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon fire. The fire, which was started by a U.S. Forest Service controlled burn, has burned over 340,000 acres—including Maky and Rene’s 30 + acre
La Sierra property above Mora.
There is no other recourse in grants for people who have suffered so much fire damage.
Maky and Rene are determined to rebuild
their home & business.
For those of us outside of the fire zone,
this is an opportunity to do something to help repair the incredible damage the fire has done to our beautiful New Mexican mountains.
Maky has lived on this land for more than 45 years. Maky and Rene’s main house was destroyed, along with many other buildings including the original rock house, the greenhouse, the kitchen house, the cabins, all the solar infrastructure, animals, and all of the water tanks that supplied water to the property. The emotional loss is incalculable, but the physical damage to the property is probably at least $13 million. FEMA will only reimburse $37,000.
Please help Maky and Rene renew their lives and all that they have lost. This is a very depressing time in New Mexico’s history so I hope we can rally and help people who have suffered so much. Thank you so much for your donation. Whatever you can afford will be greatly appreciated.
It's not hard to imagine that it would take more than $13 million to rebuild everything that has been lost, but we're trying to raise $50,000 to simply remove dangerous debri, build a communal kitchen, some outhouses & begin water infrastructure-
so their community can gather to help them move forward.
