We, the concern citizens of Pompano Beach, Florida and surrounding areas, are presenting a Go Fund Me Account, to help with the efforts of restructuring, repairing and most importantly, stopping the illegal purchase of The Westview Community Cemetery. Mr. Walter Hunter, the manager, new board members and management staff of Westview Community Cemetery of Pompano Beach and the overall management system has been deplorable. Many of us have family members and friends buried at Westview Cemetery and cannot locate where they are buried due to lake of record keeping. This information has been requested and management has not been able to provide it due to records are not being properly maintained. In addition, the cemetery is an eye sore to the community. It is in desperate need of repair and regular maintenance. Fencing is dilapidated, weeds overgrown, no irrigation system in place, vaults are becoming unsealed, and caskets exposed. Mr. Hunter and new board members have decided to sale 4.5 acres of land that is suppose to be future land for the cemetery in regards to future burials. The Board nor manager has the right or power to sale part of the cemetery without the consent of the community. We never voted, we never agreed, we never even met to place new board members on the incorporation. Therefore, we are seeking funds to help with legal fees that will allow the community attorneys, the time, effort, and financial standings in regards to the entire process of the judicial system. We are believing for a positive verdict is found and the intent of the illegal sale and purchase is stopped. We, the community, are appalled in this matter because our history goes deep. During the days of segregation days, our forefathers ancestors of our community could not be buried at the local cemetery, which Pompano Beach Cemetery on Federal Highway, because whites felt that the black bodies would contaminate their white bodies. Seeing a need, Mr. Paul Hunter of Pompano Beach, Florida donated over 15 acres of land to be utilized as a cemetery for the community. This admirable act was done so that our community will have a sacred place for burials. To ensure that it maintains it place in the community, it was established as a non-profit organization. Somewhere along the line, things became disheveled due to a lack of transparency. With this lack of transparency, came dealings that were not above board. We need your help financially so that we can establish a system whereby every burial is properly recorded and that this information be made available to the families. We are needing your help so that we can restructure the entire system through this legal battle so that there can be regular maintenance grounds which consists of mowing of the grass, providing an adequate irrigation system, and caring for the graves as required by state and city regulations. With your help, we will be able to be transparent with all bank records, established new and adequate bylaws, and all meeting agendas and minutes. Therefore, we ask you, the heart and soul of this community and abroad, to donate any amount whether its $1.00, $5.00, $20.00, $30.00, or anything that can help us fight. Let’s support this fight so that our loved ones that are laid to rest within Westview's gates or are simply resting in a perpetual, sacred place. We thank you all in advance for your participation in helping our community obtain answers and begin improving the resting place of hundreds of beloved souls.
