Spencer statue -Official Dog 126th Boston Marathon

Donation protected
We are raising funds for a statue of Spencer – The Official dog of the 126th Boston Marathon in 2022 and we need your help. Please join us in honoring him.

Spencer was our beautiful Golden Retriever. He was a therapy dog who was an inspiration and symbol of hope for almost a decade along the Boston Marathon route.

During his life, Spencer overcame cancer several times while keeping his post every Patriots Day, standing Boston Strong for the runners along the course regardless of the weather.

Spencer thrived on the energy of others and spent his life helping others. Whether he was visiting hospitals, assisted living facilities or standing his post along the marathon route Spencer lived every day with dignity and compassion.

His perseverance through his health battles showed that you are capable of more than you think and that you can overcome obstacles that seem impossible resonates with every Boston Marathon runner and cancer fighter.

Spencer lost his latest battle with Cancer on February 17th, 2023, at age 13.6
Spencer's passing left a void in our lives and the Boston Marathon this year.

Immediately after his passing, requests flooded in for a memorial statue of Spencer that should be placed permanently on the Boston Marathon course. We are here to make that happen!

That memorial statue will be constructed and placed on the route in Ashland close to where Spencer stood for many years. We hope that Spencer’s story through this statue will continue to be a source of inspiration and hope for generations to come.

We have a small team of volunteers dedicated to making this happen. We have consulted with sculptors, landscape architects and town officials and are ready to proceed. Our goal is aggressive and costly. There are many facets to this project.

We are hoping to have this project completed with a bronze Spencer statue based on the photo on our page installed before The 2024 Boston Marathon. A conservative estimate is $50,000. Every cent raised will go towards the statue and its installation and any remaining funds will be donated to Spencer's Memorial Cancer research fund which has already raised $38,000 for cancer research.

We hope you will join us in supporting Spencer’s memorial statue by donating. Thank you. Rich and Dorrey Powers and now Jimmy too! #BOSTONSTRONG
