Station North ARTS Cafe FUNDRAISER

Dear Friends, The Station North ARTS Cafe Gallery has been given the opportunity to purchase and renovate the building where we have, with your past support,  created a "cultural canopy" here in the Station North Arts and Entertainment District.  We need your financial support in order to make this happen and we need it bad.   We are currently in talks with the area's community building organizations, private foundations and banks trying to garner funding for acquisition and redevelopment of the property.  Please take a moment to read about our history here in the neighborhood including our dedication and commitment to being a thread in the artistic tapestry and jewel this community is and remains.    Twenty  five years ago, we opened our first cafe, The Metropolitan Theatre Cafe at NIRVANA , at 1727 North Charles Street.  Through a friendship and with an agreement to property developer Alan Shecter to clear out the then Maryland  Library for the Blind, we launched our hopes and dreams to operate and own a place where we could mix food and art with business and community. The year was 1993 and the neighborhood we fondly call Station North now was known as Charles North.   For a short time we hosted art openings, ran a cold-foods cafe and hosted live performances (including one by the legendary Eartha Kitt) and theater presentations in a self-constructed 200 seat theater.   Sheer determination and passion kept us there until a two-year Charles Street re-construction project put us out of business.  Years later, 2005 in fact, we returned to Charles Street and opened up The Baltimore Packrat consignment shop and Maleka's Spa Salon at our current location. In 2006, we opened the Station North ARTS Cafe Gallery.
