Who We Are:
We are StateElevate (stateelevate.com), a non-profit, student led mentoring organisation based in the UK. We are dedicated to levelling the playing field for talented young people in the North East.
Our mission is clear: we provide dedicated, one-to-one mentorship to guide students through the complex and competitive application process for top UK universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, and other Russell Group institutions. We believe that a student's postcode should not determine their potential. Currently we are mentoring 65 students, across 5 schools. We have recently appeared on ITV News, BBC Radio 1 and in 2 regional newspapers!
The Problem:
The application process for competitive universities is a complicated and often confusing situation of personal statements, admissions tests, and interviews. While students in some areas have access to extensive school support and private tutors, many gifted students in the North East navigate this alone. We are here to change that.
Our Solution & Our Story:
StateElevate was founded and is run entirely by two university students who have successfully navigated this journey themselves. We understand the challenges firsthand.
We pair each student with a dedicated mentor, often a current student or graduate of a top university, who provides personalised guidance on every step of the application. This year, we are supporting over 50 students and mentors across 4 partner schools. Crucially, every single hour of our work is voluntary. From managing 50+ pairs to coordinating with schools, the two of us have been covering the operational costs ourselves. To scale our impact and ensure sustainability, we need your help.
Where Your Money Will Go - A Detailed Breakdown:
Your donation will directly fund the essential tools and support that make our mentoring possible. We are committed to complete transparency.
- Outreach Banners & Materials: Professional banners and flyers for our school visits across the North East. This helps us find the next cohort of talented students who would otherwise miss out.
- Emergency Fund: We hope to set up an emergency fund for both mentors and students that covers the cost of replacing broken calculators, contributing towards laptop repairs, or covering an unexpected admissions test fee. This ensures no student is disadvantaged by a sudden financial hurdle.
- Website & Platform Upkeep: Secures our professional website for a year, including hosting, security, and our domain. This is our digital hub for mentor applications, student resources, and building credibility with partners. Alongside this, to facilitate our webinars’ length, we would be able to buy Zoom premium.
- Essential Interview Equipment: A sturdy tripod and a quality mini microphone. This allows us to interview important figures (that are in the works!) whilst looking credible and being able to convert the experience into one accessible for our students and mentors.
- University Visit Transport Fund: Covers travel costs for students to visit a university campus. A campus visit can be transformative, making a distant dream feel like an achievable goal.
- Mentor Appreciation Gifts: A small gift and a handwritten card to thank our incredible volunteers. This is vital for retaining our dedicated mentors.
Your Impact:
By supporting us, you are not just donating to a cause. You are investing directly in the future of ambitious young people in the North East. You are helping to bridge the geographic and social mobility gap, one application at a time. Join us in ensuring that ambition, not background, dictates a student’s future.
