On Wednesday, September 16, 2020 a beautiful, always positive soul was taken from this world too soon. Mikki Ann (Marling) Starr, 27, was tragically shot and killed by her husband, who then turned the gun on himself, leaving their beautiful children with no biological parents to raise them.
Mikki was a devoted mother who lived for her two children, Ryker 7 and Ryah 2½. She shared her positive outlook on life, her love of bowling, running, and animals with her children. They were her number one priority, always. Because of one man’s choice, they will never again get to learn more from her, more about her, or share more time with her. They are now left alone in this world to be raised by Mikki’s older sister. This loving aunt is all in, willing to do what is necessary to keep her niece and nephew safe, happy, healthy, and in a stable environment. She also has a daughter, 11, who is opening her heart even more for her cousins.
Mikki’s family had already been through so much prior to this horrific event, having lost their father in 2000, their brother, age 14, in 2003 from cancer, and their sister in 2018 from a heart attack at age 27—yes, the same age as Mikki. They have been through more than any one family can even imagine; yet they have held strong. The tragic way in which Mikki has died has shaken this strength and leaves so many questions, struggles, and heartache. But this aunt with the help of her significant other, daughter, mother, stepfather, and those surrounding her will do what it takes to make sure Ryker and Ryah have the best life they can.
In the short term, a portion of the money collected will go towards the children’s immediate expenses and help their aunt and her significant other establish their new home environment. Along with the short-term concerns, there’s hope to create a trust which will provide for the children’s future hopes and dreams.
In an attempt to soften the blow of this inconceivable tragedy, prayers and financial support are needed to help this family start and maintain a positive and stable future.
