My name is Julie Wallace.
I am the mum of Sara Zelenak.
Sara was 21 years old when she was murdered in the London Bridge terrorist attack on 3 June 2017. She was young, vibrant, and full of life. One moment she was here, the next she was gone — taken by an act of terror that changed our family forever.
This week, as Australians, we are grieving again.
The terror attack at Bondi has shaken our nation to its core. It is confronting, heartbreaking, and deeply triggering — not just for me and my family, but for every person who understands how fragile safety can feel when terror comes to a public place, on ordinary ground, in the middle of everyday life.
This time, it happened on Australian soil.
Fifteen lives have been lost. Children, families, strangers enjoying an evening by the water. Dozens more are injured. First responders ran toward danger without hesitation. Families are now facing the unimaginable — the moment when life is divided into before and after.
If you are grieving right now, if you feel shaken, numb, angry, overwhelmed, or unable to make sense of what has happened — I want you to know this: your reaction is human, and you are not alone.
Why Sarz Spirit Foundation Exists
After Sara was murdered, my husband Mark and I founded Sarz Spirit Foundation in her honour.
We did not choose this path — but we chose what we would do with our pain.
Sarz Spirit Foundation exists to support people impacted by traumatic grief, terrorism, and violent loss. We know, firsthand, that the trauma does not end when the headlines fade. For victims, families, survivors, and first responders, the impact can last a lifetime.
The Bondi attack has once again shown how urgently Australia needs accessible, trauma-informed support for those affected by terrorism — not just in the immediate aftermath, but in the months and years that follow.
What We Are Raising Funds For – $75,000 Target
We are raising $75,000 to expand Australian-based digital support resources for victims of terrorism and mass violence.
Funds raised will support the development of:
Trauma-informed educational resources for victims, families, and communities
Digital tools to help people understand traumatic grief and its long-term effects
Survivor-centred content that validates lived experience and reduces isolation
Resources that can be accessed privately, safely, and from anywhere in Australia
These resources are designed to meet people where they are, especially those who may not yet be ready — or able — to seek face-to-face support.
Transparency & Trust
Sarz Spirit Foundation is a registered Australian charity (ACNC).
We are 100% volunteer-led — no salaries are paid.
All funds raised stay in Australia to support Australians affected by terrorism and traumatic loss.
Every dollar given is a vote of compassion, solidarity, and care.
A Gentle Invitation
You may be feeling helpless in the face of such tragedy. Many people ask, “What can I do?”
This is one way to stand with victims and families — to say you matter, your pain is seen, and you are not forgotten.
If you are able to donate, thank you.
If you cannot, please consider sharing this campaign. That alone helps extend support to those who need it most.
From one grieving mother to a grieving nation — thank you for standing with us.
With love and hope,
Julie Wallace
