Standing with the Hawkers - A journey of hope and faith
This is something we never anticipated that we would have to write. Shauna, our amazing sister, who is always there to make us laugh and feel loved, is now facing a battle none of us ever imagined - breast cancer.
In March of 2025, Shauna found a lump in one of her breasts. Fast forward a few weeks, and after scans, biopsies, and mammograms, the devastating news came, ‘it’s cancer.’ Early in May, she then underwent surgery to remove the tumours and affected lymph nodes to which the cancer had spread. She has since started an intensive treatment plan of eight sessions of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and a 15 rounds of radiotherapy to come.
It came to light through blood tests that a gene mutation known as BRCA1 was responsible for the cancer diagnosis at such a young age. This puts her at increased risk of breast and/or ovarian cancer diagnosis in the future without undergoing further treatment and preventative surgery. Whilst the side-effects of chemo and hormone therapies are brutal and the road ahead long with more treatments yet to come, Shauna is facing it with courage, and the hope that ‘God works all things together for the good of those who love Him.’ Romans 8:28
Shauna doesn’t face this battle alone. Josh, her husband, has been supporting her through these past months, along with their two beautiful children and wider family. Many friends have also stood with them, praying for them, and helping in practical ways.
Lots of you have asked how you might help and so we’ve set up this page as an opportunity for you to support them, should you wish, in a financial way. Any amount you give will go a long way to supporting them with all sorts of needs – medical, practical, travel costs, etc – and will no doubt be a great a blessing to them.
Thank you for standing with this family through a very difficult time.
From Lucy, Amy (sisters), Alex (brother), and Tracey (mum)
A brief note to say: check your breasts. Finding the lump early has saved Shauna’s life. For more info, click the link:
