Helping the Winton Family Through Pat’s Cancer Battle
On December 18th, the Winton family received news no family is ever prepared for. Pat Winton—beloved husband to Katie for 26 years and proud father to Collin and Megan—was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. In addition to the lung tumor, two more concerning spots were found on his kidney and shoulder. These will be further tested on December 29th as Pat meets with his cancer care team to discuss the seriousness of these findings, treatment options, and the placement of a permanent port for chemotherapy and radiation.
Pat has deep roots in the New Berlin and Columbus communities. A lifelong resident, he has spent decades showing up for others. He began his career in 1994 at Baillie Lumber right out of high school and worked there until 2005. After that, he dedicated 18 years to the Town of Columbus, helping keep roads safe during harsh winters and assisting with major construction projects during the summer. Operating heavy equipment and driving dump truck has always been work he takes pride in. He is now with Fuller Paving, where he continues to drive truck and run equipment—but like many in seasonal work, he is currently laid off for the winter.
Outside of work, Pat is known for his big heart and steady willingness to help anyone who needs it. He loves working on small engines in the garage, snowmobiling, driving RC cars, and bowling with friends on Sunday nights. His hobbies are a reflection of who he is: hands-on, fun-loving, and always surrounded by good company.
Now, as he faces the fight of his life, the Winton family needs the support they’ve so often given to others.
With medical appointments located an hour and a half away (one direction), and with the growing expenses of treatments, scans, travel, and day‑to‑day needs during this difficult time, we are asking our community—friends, neighbors, and anyone moved by Pat’s story—to come together and help lighten the load.
Pat is not fighting alone. His family, friends, and community are standing behind him every step of the way. Any contribution—big or small—will help ease the financial burden and allow Pat and Katie to focus fully on what matters most: his healing, his strength, and his fight.
We have full permission from the Winton family to share their story and to help rally support as they navigate this challenging journey.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and prayers for Pat and his family.
Let’s show them that their community is rooting for them—just as they have always been there for us.
