Standing with Omar: Help His Family Rebuild in Portland
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Jenna Britann, and I'm raising money to support my friend’s family—newly arrived refugees from Afghanistan—who are working hard to rebuild their lives here in Portland.
About their story:
Omar risked his life serving alongside U.S. allies in Afghanistan, providing aid to the U.S. military. Because of his service, he was targeted by the Taliban. As he was fleeing Kabul, he was attacked and injured. Thankfully, through humanitarian parole, Omar and his family were able to escape and reunite with his brother here in Portland.
Now, between Omar's family and his brother's family, 16 family members are crowded into a single household. Due to the current administration's cuts to refugee services and funding freezes, resources like rental assistance are nearly impossible to access. We have already been able to gather support for Omar's work permit and secure a rental deposit—but he urgently needs help raising funds for his first month’s rent so his family can get a stable footing and start rebuilding their lives here in Portland.
Please join me in supporting this family as a thank you for Omar’s service—service that put him at risk while aiding our country. The U.S. disrupted his homeland and made promises that haven’t been kept. As neighbors, we now have the chance to show up for Omar and his family.
Thank you so much for your support.
