Dear Riverview Community,
Just as countless families all over the country are facing unprecedented challenges related to the DHS and ICE, one local family is reeling after the sudden and traumatic arrest of a Riverview community member and parent, Jose Flores, originally from Nicaragua.

On what should have been a normal school morning, Jose was preparing his car to take his daughter to school when he was arrested in his own driveway, in front of his child. Despite stating that he had proper documentation and requesting the opportunity to retrieve it, he was denied that chance and taken away.

The impact of this moment cannot be overstated. His family is traumatized, and many students and families in our community are frightened and uncertain, including families who are now questioning whether it is safe to go about their daily routines. In moments like this, our community responds the way it always has — by coming together.

Here is a link to the Trib article detailing this

While local community organizations have stepped in to help address the family’s immediate needs, the financial burden they now face is significant and ongoing. Legal fees alone are substantial, and daily expenses such as housing, food, childcare, and transportation do not pause during a crisis.

This fundraiser has been created to help support Jose’s family, with funds going directly toward legal fees and essential living expenses as they navigate the days and weeks ahead. The organizer (me, Andy) is working closely with trusted community members and advocates who have been authorized to gather and distribute funds based on the family’s needs. Please note, we are 100% in direct contact with the family and our connection to them is through the school district. I am the significant other of a Riverview staff member who can technically not post on this publicly. If anyone has any concerns simply message me on here and I will respond quickly.

We are deeply grateful for any support you are able to offer. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ease the burden on this family and sends a powerful message that they are not alone.

Please keep Jose Flores, his wife, his daughter, and all of our immigrant families in your thoughts.

Thank you for showing up for one another when it matters most.
With gratitude and solidarity.
