Recently, Ely’s partner—the father of their children, ages 6 and 7—was taken into custody while stepping out to buy food for his family. He is now being held in detention far from home. In an instant, Ely was left to manage everything alone, and her children were separated from their father with no warning.

Before this happened, Ely’s partner provided both essential childcare and income while Ely worked. That stability disappeared overnight. Ely is now facing immediate financial hardship and is struggling to cover basic necessities like rent, utilities, groceries, and care for her children during this traumatic time.

Despite the fear and uncertainty, Ely is doing everything possible to keep life as stable as she can for her kids—to make sure they have a safe home, meals on the table, and a sense of routine while their family navigates this crisis.
