On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, CQ Roll Call’s parent company FiscalNote laid off four members of the newsroom guild. The guild is seeking donations to help them manage this difficult transition period.
Just over two years ago, the journalists of CQ Roll Call voted to form a union. We have since been bargaining with company leadership for a contract, putting the unit in status quo. While we maintain that these layoffs are not legal, our most pressing concern now is helping our colleagues with basic life expenses when they no longer can rely on a regular paycheck.
Each of these members filled a valuable role in the newsroom. We lost years of institutional knowledge, policy expertise, and reporting chops when they departed. We are lucky to have worked with them and heartbroken that their time at CQ Roll Call has been so abruptly cut short.
This fundraiser is organized by the CQ Roll Call guild and we will be splitting up the money with three of our laid-off colleagues, as one of those affected has opted out of receiving donations.
Any contributions are greatly appreciated. We are stronger together, and we are not done fighting for a fair contract for the guild.
