If you know Brittany Farr, you know this already: she doesn’t do things halfway, and she doesn’t do them for attention.

Brittany is a woman of faith, a mom, and someone who genuinely believes that being a good citizen means asking hard questions with humility and integrity. Recently, she submitted a lawful FOIA request to the Town of Clover to better understand the use of Flock Safety license plate reader cameras — including costs, contracts, and oversight tied to publicly funded surveillance.

She narrowed her request multiple times in good faith to reduce burden and expense. Even so, she was given a cost estimate that placed access to these public records behind a meaningful financial barrier, and her request for a public-interest fee waiver was denied. Nothing unlawful happened — but the process itself revealed something important.

Instead of walking away, Brittany chose to follow through.

On January 28th, after prayer and careful consideration, she paid a $220.23 deposit out of her own pocket — an expense she hadn’t planned for and may not ultimately recover. She did this not to accuse anyone, not to stir outrage, and not for personal gain, but because she felt it mattered to see the process through honestly and completely.

This is our very own @patriotmomma85, our SC Freedom Fighter. She’s taking something confusing and intimidating and translating it so real people can understand how it actually works. She’s documenting the process so others don’t feel small, powerless, or alone when they try to engage with their own local government. As she said herself, freedom of information isn’t free — and she’s shouldering that cost so others can learn.

This GoFundMe is just a way for those of us who know her and trust her heart to help carry some of that burden with her. Funds will go directly toward FOIA-related costs and any additional fees that may come as the records are retrieved.
