My name is Mindan Ocon, and I live in Portland, Oregon -- right across the street from the ICE facility. For months, I've stood up at City Councils, spoken on the news, and fought for my neighbors --- and I will NOT be silenced.

But the cost has been HEAVY.

Immigrations of Customs and Enforcements has repeatedly blasted chemical agents into our neighborhood -- into the place my daughter and I call HOME as our home is front row seats to injustice.

ICE has targeted me and shot at me while I was on my balcony to intimidate me to not record their brutality *KGW Link below* .

They've also gassed the corner of my apartment so bad, I've had to put my child in the tub to keep her away from harms multiple times .

On one of those nights , July 8th 2025 , she was exposed so badly, I rushed her to the hospital, I have a doctors letter confirming what happened to her. Not long after, I ended up in the hospital myself -- vomiting brown stomach acid, losing my hair, losing weight and now living with PTSD and ulcers. I have medical documentation and every documentations of this damage.

As DHS , ICE & PPB have been targeting me, I am in fear of leaving my home. This has led to a loss of income, as I have been unable to travel to my Vietnamese interpreter job, further compounding the safety of myself and my family, and putting my housing at risk. My past has also been thrown at me and my name has been slander because I used to be a sex worker which I have no shame in owning up to but what does my past have to do with my present ? I work for my community and give back to my community.

Before things has went from bad to worse, I warned my property manager about the danger and my fears for my child's safety --- including that a neighbor had doxxed me , the SAME neighbor who attacked protesters and pulled a knife on them. SHE DID NOTHING. And to make matters worse, she allowed racist, right wings extremists into our building including the same person who spread my address online.

I no longer feel safe taking my daughter anywhere in our neighborhood out of fear that ICE agents will kidnap me as I'm already targeted OR racist right wings will attack my daughter to harm me. Since my daughter been born, my only priority is to protect her but also show her right from wrong and what is happening to us for standing up is WRONG .

Through it all, I HAVE KEPT SHOWING UP. I continue to speak out. I continue to protect my community. But I can't do it alone.
