On the 27th of July, the Andary family received the devastating news that their 13-year-old son Xavier had been diagnosed with a rare malignant tumor called a clival chordoma — a cancer requiring urgent, specialised surgery. Xavier bravely underwent a 9-hour operation at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, followed by a week-long stay as he began his long road to recovery.

Now, as of the 1st of December, Xavier’s journey is taking him all the way to Florida, USA for three months — the only place able to provide the next stage of highly specialised care he needs. This means Xavier will be overseas for a minimum of three months, far from home, school, friends, and most importantly, his siblings. And unfortunately means, the family won’t be together at Christmas.

While his medical treatment is fully covered, the emotional and financial strain on the family is immense. Travelling, staying connected, and doing everything possible to keep the family together during such a stressful and uncertain time is something no parent can ever prepare for.

This fundraiser aims to ease that burden — helping with the practical costs of supporting Xavier and making it possible for his loved ones to spend precious time together while he’s so far from home.
