APPEAL of AUD Project at 418 N Milpas Street - SB Eastside

Donation protected
We are a group of Eastside Neighbors that have been opposing the ABR approval of a 4-Story-Complex with 90 rental units located at 418 N Milpas St since 2022.

Only 9 units will be affordable as low-income housing and 6 will be moderate-income units. The remaining 75 are going to be unaffordable for the average tenant. The Architect Jan Hochhouser said that they will be for Doctors, Nurses and others that can pay the higher Market Rate Rent.

This prison-like monster will make our historical 1-2 story neighborhood look like Downtown LA pretty soon with more to come!.
This building is not compatible with our current architectural designs.

Our Sacramento government is forcing these monstrous and ugly AUD complexes to be only built on the Eastside, where the density is already too high.
One of the Planning employees said that the City has chosen the Eastside because its majority of residents are Hispanics who don't have the time to complain, don't show up to Public Hearing Meetings because they are working 2-3 jobs and also have English language barriers which makes it harder for them to comment and oppose on important neighborhood matters! This sounds like Discrimination to us!

Our local government is not making efforts to deny these oversized and massive buildings that will be popping up everywhere along the Haley and Milpas Corridor as a catalyst effect if we, as the residents, are not fighting these to be built next door.

This particular project is the first one that will put 9 close-by residents into a tall shadow and 8 residents on the street because they will be thrown out of their Cottages on Gutierrez St.
It's going to create mold and sadness for these neighbors being placed into the dark because its height will be 60 feet which is comparable to a tall hospital like Cottage and block the sunlight and mountain views.

The 2 back walls are straight up against tiny bungalows and townhomes.
Another issue will be street safety due to more traffic congestion while current residents will have to fight even more for their street parking spaces.

Since our last ABR meeting at the Planning Department on April 14, 2025, we lost our long battle of fighting it and decided to file an appeal which now costs 4 times more than what it used to be.

We are kindly asking our concerned Santa Barbarians and Eastside Neighbors to help us out with donations to pay the Appeal Fee of $1095 soon because we only have 4 days left to send our letter to City Hall.

Any amount is highly appreciated!
