Support University Medical Center Nurses fight for a Historical First Union Contract
Nurses in Louisiana are in a historic battle. Your donation today to our Welfare Fund will help us keep fighting to change the way health care is delivered in the Deep South.
After winning our union election by an overwhelming 82%, becoming the first unionized private hospital in Louisiana, UMC nurses begun negotiating a first contract to address staffing shortages, rampant workplace violence, fair and transparent pay to recruit and retain nurses, and much more.
Patient care is at the center of all we do. Our pride and joy is serving our community in New Orleans, and our fight is about ensuring that they get the best care possible. Since negotiating our first contract, nurses have endured a nasty union busting campaign by management, who has spent upwards of 20 million dollars to weaken our fight. Not only have UMC nurses made history winning our election, we are the first nurses to have gone on strike in the entire Deep South.
Most recently, we engaged in a 4th strike for two days over retaliatory disciplines against 2 of our most outspoken nurse leaders.
We continue this fight to ensure our New Orleans community gets the best care possible, and that nurses have a voice in the decision making process in our hospital. While our fight has been beyond empowering as we challenge the medical industrial complex of Louisiana and the Deep South, millionaire bosses have pulled every move to silence us.
We are asking for https://www.nationalnursesunited.org/lcmc/charity-betrayedsupport in raising money for nurses who fall on hard times during our fight. From unforeseen life circumstances to retaliatory terminations against Union Leaders, any donation will help move the needle forward in our fight. Our goal is clear: Win a union contract at UMC and unionize the entire Deep South to transform the United States’ health care system.
