Greetings from Minnesota. My husband, George, and I, Beth, have had the privilege of having a Ukrainian family of 5 staying with us since June 9th. As our video explains, this lovely family left Kyiv amid the bombing with only what their car could hold. They left their home, family, friends, and business due to a war they had hoped would never happen. It took them three months to get permission to come to the United States, and they finally arrived in June. They are not considered refugees by the US government. They are here on humanitarian parole, meaning they must have an Employment Authorization Document(EAD) before getting social security numbers, employment, or even signing a lease. The current waiting period is around 90 days.
This hardworking family currently has no means of income, and despite their immense desire to work, they must wait for their EAD before they can even begin to be self-sufficient. To help them start their new life in America, we want to raise enough money to support them for six months. Given current inflation, the high cost of living, and the fact the family is completely starting over, we are looking to raise $40,000. This money will be placed in a bank account specifically for this family to help them pay for rent, groceries, medications, gas, school supplies and other incidentals they will need. Please Stand with Ukraine and help us support this wonderful family.
