Thierno is a sweet and brave 20 year old from Guinea who fled his country because of ethnic and political persecution. He has been living in the United States for over 2 years and is building his life here in New York City. He is a hard worker and committed to learning English and contributing productively to society. He dreams of becoming a nurse one day.
Thierno now faces a removal order to Uganda, a country he has never been to and is terrified of being sent to, and urgently needs our help. Under the Trump administration, many immigration judges are ordering asylum seekers like Thierno removed to third countries that signed agreements with the US government, without even reviewing their asylum case. This is a blatant violation of Thierno's due process and human rights.
We are raising funds to pay for Thierno to obtain immigration counsel ($5,000 for representation, $1,000 for the cost of the appeal) to fight his removal order and have the chance to fulfill his dreams and stay in the United States.
Any additional fees raised will go to Thierno directly so he can purchase meals/clothes/medicine/metrocards/etc.
* I run a legal services clinic out of a nonprofit called ROCC NYC, and Thierno is one of our clients. I am connecting him with legal representation and paying the attorney directly with the funds from this fundraiser. I have Thierno's permission to withdraw these funds on his behalf to use for his legal expenses, and will send him any extra funds outside of GoFundMe.
