Stand with the Varellis: Facing ALS Together

Mrs. Varelli served as a beloved first and second grade teacher at Fort Garrison Elementary from 2013 to 2022. During her time in the classroom, she touched the lives of countless young learners with her warmth, creativity, and dedication. A visit to her classroom was a glimpse into a world of joyful, dynamic learning—where students explored letters through art, focused while seated on rocker stools, or engaged with language through technology. She had a unique ability to meet each student exactly where they were, nurturing their growth into confident, independent learners. Her classroom was always alive with energy, imagination, and a spirit of inclusivity. Mrs. Varelli never hesitated to go the extra mile to ensure her students’ success.

Now, it is our turn as a community to support Mrs. Varelli and her family in their time of need. In 2023, her husband, Steve, was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells and currently has no cure. As the disease progresses, it has made it increasingly difficult for the Varelli family to enjoy simple outings together.

We would like to come together to shower the Varelli family with kindness and support. One meaningful way we can help is by providing meals that allow them to spend quality time together at home, making memories around the dinner table.
