Help Us Protect The Building Complex
The Building Complex is a registered LLC and a for-profit, small family business. We are not a nonprofit organization, and contributions made to this fundraiser are not tax-deductible. Funds raised will go directly toward legal fees, compliance-related expenses, required property adjustments, and operational costs associated with defending and protecting our business.
The Building Complex was built by two sisters born and raised in West Haven — a women-owned, Latina-owned, veteran-owned sports facility and community center. It is owned by a family who poured everything they had into creating a safe and welcoming space for the very community that raised them.
We opened our doors after being granted a Certificate of Occupancy at 150 Front Avenue, a property owned by Yanez Enterprises LLC. From the beginning, our mission was simple: to create a safe, structured, and welcoming environment for youth and families. What started as a vision has become a home for so many in our town — and we are fighting to preserve it.
Following continuous neighbor complaints and alleged violations, the town’s zoning board imposed additional conditions that have felt increasingly unrealistic and open-ended. Still, we listened. We adjusted our operations. We made improvements. We communicated openly. We met frequently with town officials and followed every zoning process to ensure we were doing everything correctly.
As the months progressed, however, the requirements surrounding our operations continued to expand. New conditions were introduced, often with compressed timelines that did not reasonably account for permitting processes, contractor availability, weather, or the realities of running a small business.
Despite our consistent cooperation and good-faith efforts to comply with every request, we have been threatened with a cease and desist order. We have worked transparently and proactively, yet the uncertainty continues. As a result, we have incurred significant legal expenses simply to advocate for fair treatment and to be recognized as a legitimate business operating responsibly within our own community.
The Building Complex has never been just a business.
It has hosted youth leagues, mental health fundraisers, cultural celebrations, open play nights, birthday parties, clinics, nonprofit events, and opportunities for first-time vendors. It has given kids a place to play. It has given families a place to gather. It has given our town a space to connect.
We are fighting to protect that.
Not just for ourselves — but for every family, every team, and every organization that relies on this space.
We are sharing this not to create division, but to create awareness. Transparency matters. Community matters. Small businesses matter.
