Stand with Sydney's Family

12/23
Unfortunately, Sydney lost her fight last night. There aren’t words to express how we’re feeling right now.

Any donations moving forward will now be used to put our sweet girl to rest. Thank-you again.

12/22 The last few days have been a rollercoaster of emotions. Here’s the latest:

*She’s officially been back on the transplant list for a few days now. There was a potential match yesterday, but this fell through, unfortunately.

*Syd remains off of the vent, despite some initial challenges at first. We really hoped taking the vent off would allow us to communicate with her, but that’s not been the case, unfortunately. She’s very sick and remains confused most of the time.

*She remains on continual dialysis. The kidney drs are concerned that her kidney function isn’t improving. Time will tell if this changes. Of course, our prayer is that a new liver will turn this around.

Please continue the prayers and support. This road is far from over!

Additional post coming to describe ways that you can support Sydney during this time.

**UPDATE 12/14**
PRAY!!
We saw some great progress in Sydney today, as she responded more than she has since the transplant. Although she remains on the ventilator, she was able to nod or shake her head to simple yes/no answers.
As grateful as we are for this progress, our optimism was squashed this evening as the liver team notified us that her most recent scan shows that the liver isn’t functioning properly. She has inflammation and poor perfusion (blood flow) throughout the liver. She’ll be sent for some testing tonight, and in the morning her team will make the determination whether or not she’ll need another transplant. It’s clear that her fight is far from over and we could be facing this battle all over again.

*UPDATE 12/12*
Sydney’s progress remains slow and complicated. She received a blood transfusion overnight and dialysis was started today. She remains intubated as her current state of encephalopathy (complications effecting her brain function) keeps her from cooperating with the ventilator wean.

**To address some questions regarding what created her current situation:
Last year, after a visit to the ER for internal bleeding, she was found to have a large mass inside her liver. (Ie: Her condition is different than alcoholic or drug-induced liver disease). Over time, the mass grew and caused her liver to malfunction and blood to back-up into her portal vein (the large vein going into her liver). Up to this point, she’s been hospitalized numerous times because the portal vein bursts and causes internal bleeding. She’s been lifeflighted, received numerous blood transfusions and has had multiple procedures to give her time to wait for a new liver. Although we are thankful for all of these attempts, her only chance at life was to have this transplant.

Thank-you for your prayers, support and love during this time.

Sydney is a wonderful 20 year old girl, currently in the hospital following a liver transplant. Her condition was a complicated one that some doctors refused to operate on. After months of switching doctors, testing, and more minor procedures, she finally got the call Saturday, they found a donor! Sydney is strong so regardless of the current complications, we know she will recover soon. Because of said complications Sydney is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another 2 weeks. Obviously her mother and step father don’t want to leave her side. This means travel expenses, food, parking, and time missed from work. If you could offer any help so they can continue to support Sydney on this journey, it would be greatly appreciated
